ISBN 978-1519300164 56 pages 32 b&w photos
Revised & Updated 2018 edition. Originally published 1985.
This 56 page booklet is a graphic account of the cruelty involved in the trade and transport of wildlife for the pet trade in the 1970’s and 1980’s and is a shortened revised edition of the original report which the author presented to delegates of the 5th Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) Conference in Buenos Aires in 1985. It was part of a campaign to restrict or end the trade in wild caught exotic animals for the pet trade by the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and was supported by Sir Peter Scott who wrote the foreword.
Countless numbers of animals, particularly birds, were dying and suffering each year to provide for the worldwide pet trade and although the trade in birds is now banned or restricted, history is repeating itself with all the suffering involved in the present burgeoning trade in reptiles.
The booklet contains many images of the suffering and death involved photographed by the author while an animal health inspector at Heathrow Airport and and may upset some readers and is not suitable for young readers.
